PHI SIGMA SIGMA
Phi Sigma Sigma, often referred to simply as Phi Sig, was the first sorority to allow women to join regardless of their faith or background. Founded back on November 26, 1913, Phi Sig was created with the idea to promote the brotherhood of man and ending the world's pain.
Founded by ten women at Hunter College in Manhattan, the name was initially Phi Sigma Omega, but had to be changed due to it already being in use by another organization. Five years later, Phi Sig expanded and it's Beta chapter was founded at Tufts University, and the Gamma chapter at New York University. However, neither are active any longer.
Phi Sigma Sigma supported the National Kidney Foundation from 1971-2013, working hard to educate others about the disease, and even of organ and tissue transplants and donations. When the September 11 attacks happened, Phi Sig created the Twin Ideals Funds to help the victims of this disaster. They also were greatly involved with the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.
Make sure to plan ahead and get your JennaBenna Phi Sigma Sigma Founder’s Day sorority shirt before November 26 so that you can join in the celebration of the sorority's fall founding.
