DELTA GAMMAÂ
Founded 144 years ago on December 25, 1873, Delta Gamma began in Mississippi but expanded to 151 chapters in both the U.S. and Canada. Confined to women's colleges in the south parts of the U.S. for many years, Delta Gam eventually established itself in the northern and eastern parts of the U.S. with the help of George Banta (a Phi Delta Theta member).
Delta Gamma was initially founded at the Lewis School for Girls in Mississippi by three girls; Mary Comfort Leonard, Eva Webb Dodd and Anna Boyd Ellington. Throughout the years the Delta Gamma Foundation has put in well over 150,000 volunteer service hours, and even hundreds of thousands of dollars for grants and scholarships. Many of which are all to support U.S. veterans and assist those who are visually impaired.
There are three main focuses for Delta Gamma; Service for Sight, grants to the fraternity, and grants to individual members. In total there has been grants well over $174,000 to Service for Sight, $500,000 to fraternity leadership!
